BARCELONA -- UB Barça take the advantage in the quarterfinal. The 77-44 victory they got yesterday over Estudiantes is the first step for the current league champions toward reclaiming the title.
Barça, backed by supporters such as Ronaldinho and Belletti (of FC Barcelona), showed themselves superior in every moment, and wound up crushing their rival, who could not measure up. Only the great performance of the center Yvonne Hendry, with 20 points and 13 rebounds, kept the blowout from being even worse.
The game started cold. Both teams had some trouble scoring, and little by little UB Barça started pulling away. But the studants didn't lower their arms. The locals' advantage at the end of the second quarter was 12 points, at 39-27. Hendry kept her team in the game with 17 of their 27 points.
As was their habit in the regular season, Barça broke the game open as soon as they came out of the locker room. Points from Silvia Font sealed a 14-3 run in the first five minutes to sign the warrant. The Azulgrana intensity did not diminish and the advantage grew slowly until the 77-44 final. Erika de Souza (24 points and 18 rebounds) and Ingrid Pons (12 points and 15 rebounds) put the stamp on the win.
