You could say that a stagnating LSU offense or great Duke defense were what stuffed the Tigers for their National Semifinal loss Sunday night, but the truth is, LSU was smote by the Basketball Gods. ESPN ran a longish (3-4 minutes) segment on the evolution of fifth-year star Seimone Augustus, with highlights back to her high school and AAU days. Somehow, they managed to avoid including even one clip of the late LSU head coach Sue Gunter, the coach who recruited and shaped Augustus into the complete and dominating player she is today. How could anyone associated with such a project knowingly leave out such an important influence: a Hall of Fame coach with 708 career wins, the third-winningest coach in the NCAA? She died less than a year ago, and retired from coaching only two seasons ago. Incredible that such a great coach should be forgotten so quickly.
