Ciudad Ros Casares fires coach Esteban Albert

12/27/2006: Ros Casares, atop the standings of the Liga Femenina, today announced their decision to fire head coach Esteban Albert one week before the beginning of play in the Queen’s Cup championship. The valencians would very much like to win the Cup.
The team’s general manager, Carme Lluveras, made the announcement after a meeting with Albert, and as a result of the last two upsets suffered by Ros: one against Hondarribia-Irún in the national championship (83-48) and the other against UMMC Ekaterinaburg in the Euroleague championship, in which Ros finished third.
Lluveras said the decision had been “very difficult” to make, especially at this point in the season. “We think that the dynamic of the personnel wasn’t the right fit to lead us into the hardest fight of the season and help us fulfill the goals that we had set for this team,” she emphasized.
The GM also affirmed that the organization has not yet decided on a coach to fill Albert’s position, although “they’re kicking some names around,” and was confident that the role will be filled before the start of the Queen’s Cup, next January 5th against Extragusa.
