Hammon: “I’m here to help this team win games”
1/17/2007 – Becky Hammon, newly signed to Rivas Futura, arrived last Saturday at Madrid Barajas airport direct from New York with only enough time to drop her suitcases at Rivas-Vaciamadrid and go catch a plane to Hondarribia. There she played her first minutes with her new teammates, also the first minutes of her successful European career.
Interviewer: What did you know about Rivas Futura before coming here?
Hammon: Well, not very much. I had heard really good things about Madrid and about the club’s organization, and how well they treat their players, so it was an easy decision to make.
Int.: You’re a big star in the WNBA. In this league, there are other players who are also very important in the American league. What can you bring to the League and to Rivas Futura?
Ham.: I always want to play at the highest level, so here I intend to help my teammates to win. I have a lot of respect for the other players and what I’m here to do is make a good team even better.
Int.: We have heard and seen a lot about your style of play, but tell us what you think are your best moves?
Ham.: I think I’m a really creative player, I have a good shot, penetrate to the basket and dish to my teammates. I think I bring a lot to my team’s game, I like to pass and shoot...
Int.: To finish up, say something to the Rivas Futura fans.
Ham.: I’m really excited to be here, to get to know my teammates and to play for a club that runs so well. I’m here to help this team win games.
