Sandora Irvin the sixth to sign for Puig d’en Valls
7/6/2007 Puig d’en Valls, which completed its sixth straight season in the Liga Femenina, has officially signed wing-center Sandora Lavett Irvin. Her statistics starting from January 2007, when she landed in Madrid’s Estudiantes team, are notable: 13.5 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks per game, twice selected game MVP.
With all that, she couldn’t keep the Magariños club from falling into the LF-2, despite leaving evidence of competence and quality. That’s not unusual, keeping in mind she comes from the WNBA, where she was selected by Phoenix with the third pick of the 2005 draft. Her 6’2” height makes her a dominating rebounder at both ends. At 25 years old, her coming to Ibiza-Formentera makes her the sixth player that coach Jordi Fernández can count on to take into the 2007-2008 season, along with nationals Laura Navarro, Mireia Navarrete and Silvia Morales, and WNBA and ex-WNBA players Sancho Lyttle and Shona Thorburn. For the moment, Irvin is the latest arrival.
